THE LANGUEDOC REGION
The Languedoc region reaches from the Pyrenees to the Mediterranean Sea.
It is home to many appellations. The last decade has seen a focus on quality
over quantity in this region, and the change has not gone unnoticed. Wines
of this region reflect a wide diversity of terroir.
Young winemakers in this region have been experimenting with noble grape
varities not traditionally of the region, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot,
Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Our wines are from domains situated
in the coastal Garrigues and the Herault area of the Languedoc.
The Domaine Preignes le Neuf, run by the Vic family for five generations produces
wines that reflect the terroir of the Garrigues, a Chardonnay with the intense
aroma of white flowers, a deeply colored Grenache Rosé with an intense
fruity aroma and flavor of wild raspberries, a robust, aromatic Cabernet Sauvignon
and a velvety, full-flavored Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot blend. This domain
also produces a Vermentino, Merlot and Syrah.
From the Domaine les Peyrilles comes a Picpoul de Pinet. This wine is a perfect
example of the expressive « terroir » wines of the Languedoc region.
It is made exclusively from the Picquepoul varietal, native to the Languedoc.
It thrives on sandy soil, and is known for its palate cleansing acidity. A
crystal straw yellow with greenish tints, aromas of lemon and grilled almonds
this dry white has a nice silky texture and clean, fresh citrus and pineapple
flavors.
